I booked my canyoning excursion with South Coast Aventuras, based on a recommendation from a local friend. The excursion took place on the Guadalmina River.
Julio, my tour guide, picked me up at my hotel in his van. We pulled over and suited up in our wetsuits. Two French tourists were joining us, so we waited for them to catch up.
Since the French men didn’t speak English, Julio thoughtfully explained everything twice, once in English and once in French. It was truly impressive.
We spent the day navigating through the canyon, which included some rock climbing and jumping. When I booked the excursion, Julio sent me a WhatsApp link. The link indicated “barranquismo nivel 1.” I later found out this translates to “canyoning level 1” in English. Honestly, I didn’t know there were different skill levels when booking. I’m disappointed with myself for not paying closer attention. The scenery was undeniably beautiful, but I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed that the experience wasn’t more demanding.
Let’s just say my big repelling moment wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for.
The view at the end was stunning!
