This quaint village extends through the side of the mountain, stretching from Sierra de Mijas to the sea. This limestone mountain chain, running parallel to the coast, creates a natural balcony over the Mediterranean.

The drive from Marbella to Mijas is about 30 minutes. It makes for a lovely half day trip. The streets are lined with cute local shops and restaurants.
Favorite stores:
- Novo Mijas – Cosmetics store
- I bought some lovely snail mucin cream from here. They had very unique natural products, one being snake venom face cream.
- Ole Mi Pepe Jewelry – Absolutely gorgeous jewelry
- I loved going into this store, because I would just watch the jewelry artisan. He was in there every day, cutting gemstones and beautifully crafting the jewelry. I was amazed with how young he was. He told me his story while he cut the gemstones. He had opals, diamonds, moonstone, bloodstone …you name it.
- Tamisa – Lovely art store with beautiful jewelry
- Lo Artesano de Mijas – Craft store
- Artemisa – Beautiful pottery store
I bought this cute woven hat, along with this matching pink opal set.

This was very sad for me to see. They had donkeys strapped to carriages, pulling people around. The poor animals looked miserable.
The town holds a market every Wednesday filled with local vendors. I had fun tasting all the samples they had to offer for me. I bought spirulina honey. Spirulina is a blue-green algae, rich in nutrients, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
